Here is a video on what I do when someone tells me during one of our sessions, “You know, my shoulder’s been bothering me during my push up.”
FIRST: Shoulder pain is a broad and complex topic. If you have persistent issues, please go find a smart physical therapist to help you out!
If you’ve having pain in your shoulder when you do your push ups, you probably have an issue moving your shoulder blade, ribs, and spine. This video will give you an exercise that I like to use for my clients when they have shoulder problems during push ups.
Please make sure to watch the whole video because this exercise DOESN’T WORK unless you do it a very particular way. I will teach you what to do, why to do it, and what to do next. I’ll give you a few exercises you can progress to doing after you master level one so that you continue to build strength in healthy positions.
When your shoulder is hurting, it’s easy to focus on ONLY what the shoulder is doing. But the shoulder is just a puppet; it’s only doing what the shoulder blade and rib cage allow it to do.
